JPME Phase I & Master’s Degree. The Master of Arts in Defense and Strategic Studies is a 10-month curriculum for resident students divided into trimesters with core teachings and electives. Core courses are primarily taught in seminar format but include capstone exercises, wargame participation, and writing assignments.

Education for Seapower Strategy 2020 is based upon three pillars. First, the Navy and Marine Corps must create a continuum of learning for the entire force. Second, our organization must integrate education into our talent-management frameworks. Finally, the Department of the Navy must strengthen and invest in the Naval University System.
