Vin plate rivets
First remove the VIN plate from the windshield to put it in a vise; not necessary but helpful. Take a new round rivet's shaft out and use it as a punch to knock out the hex rivet's old shaft. Then GENTLY squeeze the back of the hex rivet so it is smaller than the hole. Helps to use the round rivet's shaft to stop from cracking it.4.8 out of 5 stars. And for the naysayers, it IS legal in some states to remove a VIN plate if one's intent is to reinstall it on the same vehicle amd it is being removed for servicing, etc.

May 5, 2024 · The plate is held on by 2 "nail rivets" and glue. There are 2 methods for removing the rivets. The VIN plate bracket has the correct star rivetsin the old dash; but the star side is on the bottom instead of the top where I would have expected it to be.
